Documentation: Steamboat Captain B.F. (Benjamin Franklin) Horn listed in 1866 Leavenworth City Directory as "Captain of Steamship Emilie".  Wife, Jane Grace Horn listed in 1860 federal census as resident of Kickapoo Twp, Leavenworth County, KS.  Oldest child, Frank, born 1866 in Kansas. According to obituary, Capt. Horn: "promoted to Captain & Pilot on the Ohio River in 1855"; also "worked the southern rivers during the Civil War"; stayed on the Missouri River until about early 1870s when he went
to work for a Railroad Co. as Captain of the Ferry Boat "Denver" at Ft. Lincoln, now ND until spring 1881 when he took command of Ferry Boat, Jim Leighton, at Pierre, SD.  Family was moved to Pierre, SD in spring 1881. He remained Capt. of the Jim Leighton until 1896.  In fall 1896 He traveled overland to Seattle, WA, took a boat to the mouth of the Yukon River, took command of the Steamship Portus B. Weare and worked the Yukon
River for two years.  Then returned to Pierre, SD and his family.
