Documentation:
Between 1852 and 1860 William Thomas Bain was placed on an
Orphan Train from New York to Iowa.  According to the 1860 census for
Iowa City, he was living at the "Orphans Home of the Industry" run by
Charles Townsend (listed as William Baine.)  His death certificate also
mentions that "nothing is known of either parents as he was brought here
from New York as a small boy by an Orphans Society."
