According to Melvin "Pat" Voyles at pat@ina.net "John's wife was Mary
Borman. They moved to Lancaster Co., SC then to Greenville, SC. Book of
1874 Atlas of Montgomery Co., IL states that John was a Revolutionary war
veteran. John and Mary had at least three other children. They were as
follows: Jessee, Eli and Amos. John spelled his last name both Vowells
and Voyles. John's twin brother was also a revolutionary war veteran.
He was private #18224. He served with Capt. Geo. Slaughter in VA.
Between 1775 and 1781 he fought in the Battles of Brandywine, Germantown
and Yorktown." .
