Registered voter in Cook County in 1890, Old citizen passes away.
Eugene McCarty, for 30 years a resident of LaGrange dies at Waukegan
after long illness. Eugene McCarty passed away at the home of daughter,
Mrs. Charles Ramsey at Waukegan, Illinois about midnight, Sunday, May 14.
Death came after a long illness and was caused by a stroke of paralysis.
It was momentarily expected, and the family remaining close, were at the
bedside at the time of his passing. The deceased was born at
Fredericksburg, Virginia, 10/14/1854 and came west about 35 years ago.
For 30 years he made his home here, and about 18 years ago was a leading
coal merchant in LaGrange. He was 67 years, 6 months of age. On
3/15/1883, he was united in marriage to May Brumbaugh. Besides the
widow, 1 sister, Mrs. George T. Howard of LaGrange and 5 children, Lester
and Gladys of LaGrange, Harry of Hinsdale, and Vida and Margaret of
Waukegan, survive him. About 5 years ago he made his home on his farm
southwest of the village and a year ago went to Waukegan to live with his
daughter. Funeral services were held at the home of son Lester, 528
North Spring Avenue, Wednesday afternoon, Rev. Eaton B. Freeman
officiating. Interment was made at Oak Ridge.
