* Hezie PALMER joined the Arkansas Infantry at the age of 14 and served for the last year of the war. Both he and his second wife, Mattie, received pensions from the State of Arkansas for his C.S.A. service. As an adult, he worked as a farmer, blacksmith, wagon maker and sewing machine repairman, and was a much loved Methodist Minister.
