Contradiction: Family tradition says Martha Allen Coffee was "full-blood Cherokee, born on the reservation at Tahlequah" (at that time Indian Territory, now Oklahoma). And that John Edmon was "the English gentleman, who came down from Missouri and they went back to Missouri and married". The 1880 Federal Census shows the two of them in Cass County TX with Susan, age 5, and George, age 2 (which is an exact fit with all the family lore).
HOWEVER: It shows that John was born in Tennessee, both his parents born in Pennsylvania, and Martha and both parents born in Kentucky.

* Frank B. YOUNG was a Spanish-American War veteran and John M. EDMON was a WWI veteran. Both died in the Great Influenza epidemic of 1918-1919.
