Documentation: Census records and other documents that I have found on
this family mostly show the name spelled STEWART. Since there was so much
illiteracy it was easy to mistake STEWARD for STEWART. However, my
grandfather told us this name family name was STEWARD, not STEWART. I use
STEWART in most of my research because that is how I find the family
named spelled most often. I see the STEWARD spelling most often before
1850.
